, martin, that president obama has woven the hoover dam into some of his speeches in the past several weeks and months to sort of talk about american exceptionalism. he said he had never seen it and he wanted to take this chance to do it. yesterday he actually made a stop, took a break from debate prep to take a stop at one of his campaign headquarters here. again gave him the chance to take a break and shake a few hands and talk to folks in this key swing state. >> kristin, we've learned that the president will get the first question tomorrow night, but do you have any other details about how the debate has been structured, how things are going to proceed? >>. >> reporter: we do have a few more details, martin. we know there are going to be six 15-minute segments. the segments will include three on the economy, one on health care, one on governing, one on the role of government, and here is how it's going to work. moderator jim lehrer will start each segment off by asking a question. he will give each candidate two minutes to answer the question, and then they'll use the remainder of the t

against somebody who shows up with totally new proposals that says, oh, he loves teachers and last week he said obama wants to hire more teachers and i'm not for that. that suddenly he's for -- he's not for cutting taxes on the top earners in this country, on the wealthy, and, of course, his whole proposal is denying that he has a proposal that would cut taxes by $5 trillion. there's a name to that proposal. he printed it out. the analysis that was done was based on a romney proposal that now he says he doesn't know what obama is talking about. it's utterly amazing, hard to debate somebody who has totally different plans than he really has said in the past. >> does this mean the president has fulfilled his promise to get unemployment below 8% and this isn't a one-term proposition? >> you know, you can't deny the numbers. 7.8% is, in fact, lower than 8%, and that's kind of the benchmark that the republicans have laid out. i'm sure they are extremely disappointed that there are better job numbers in the united states of america because they have been trying to sabotage any efforts, every day

because of things that happened at companies he ran? isn't it telling that president obama didn't make much of this 47% gaffe a week ago. >> sir, why didn't the president bring up any of those things? were you watching this wondering that yourself? >> of course. i was watching it and some of the comments that i hear today make me think people were looking for entertainment instead of substance and facts. i was looking for substance and facts. i saw a president who was very calm, cool and collected. he was looking out for the interest of seniors here in the country as it related to medicare and he was somebody concerned, in my opinion, about the middle class about doing what's right in terms of going forward in terms of diversifying our resources. i know people say this morning that maybe romney was attacking and energetic and all of that sort of thing, but what i saw in the president was somebody who knew his facts, kept his cool, presented himself in a presidential way and i thought did a fine job. we have to realize there's two more of these debates to go. and i don't know that the p
